a cross-cultural exploration of string timbre and gesture
About
Silk Dialogues is an international collaboration of leading composers and performers working cross-culturally to produce new compositions combining Chinese and Western instruments. The deeper aim is to establish a rich shared context for musical creativity that will evolve and develop over a series of projects and exchanges, while generating a new repertoire of works for Chinese-Western instrumental combinations.
Silk Dialogues projects have been supported by The University of Sheffield, Confucius Institute Sheffield, Sheffield University Concert Series, Classical Sheffield, Confucius Institute Wellington, NZTrio Foundation, Capital Normal University Beijing, Radio New Zealand and SOUNZ.
